SHUTDOWN MANAGER
Our client, an Oil and Gas Operator based in Aberdeen is seeking an experienced Shutdown Manager. This is a 3-year contract role (Limited Company or PAYE).
Role Scope of Work:
This position is tasked with coordinating and delivering shutdown activities in accordance with company policies, asset priorities, and budget limitations. It involves managing relationships with both internal and external suppliers and partners to ensure the successful achievement of all asset objectives, including compliance with relevant audit requirements. The role will provide leadership throughout all phases of shutdown planning and execution, beginning with the initial definition of scope and preparation, all the way through to successful completion while adhering to the established budget. A key focus will be on consistently integrating safety requirements at every stage of the shutdown process. The role requires proactive identification, procurement, and preparation of all necessary resources, which will involve extensive coordination of critical shutdown activities such as detailed planning, isolation procedures, permit management, leak testing, and flange management. This position is responsible for ensuring that all shutdown activities meet predefined readiness criteria while maintaining proactive stakeholder engagement and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
Lead and manage the shutdown team effectively.
Stakeholder Alignment:
Foster close communication and alignment with all stakeholders involved in the shutdown process.
Scope, Planning & Reporting:
Oversee the establishment, approval, and execution of shutdown objectives, scope of work, and schedules.
Manage the shutdown work list along with planning and reporting systems, tracking daily progress, issues, and forecasts.
Engage in integrated planning processes with the asset team.
Set clear performance standards and monitor progress against them.
Risk Management:
Ensure a comprehensive HSE Plan is in place and that all high-risk tasks are identified. Ensure proper induction of subcontractors and adherence to permit-to-work procedures.
Conduct risk assessments for high-risk and critical path elements.
Safety Leadership:
Exhibit strong safety leadership through proactive actions and effective communication with the team, contractors, and vendors.
Incident Reporting & Action:
Promote a culture of incident reporting, ensuring thorough investigations and timely resolution of issues.
Resource & Contract Management:
Ensure that shutdown activities are adequately resourced with manpower, equipment, and materials.
Oversee cost management and contractual arrangements for all additional service requirements, including leak testing, flange management, and vessel cleaning.
Safety & PPE:
Identify and address additional PPE needs and specialist hazards.
Engineering Verification:
Review and verify engineering deliverables, addressing any deficiencies.
Construction & Commissioning:
Collaborate with construction and commissioning teams to identify project sub-systems and optimise shutdown schedules.
Punch List Management:
Ensure effective management and closure of punch list activities.
Change Management:
Be knowledgeable about Management of Change (MOC) and site change control procedures.
Continuous Improvement:
Foster a culture of continuous improvement through lessons learned, improvement initiatives, and knowledge sharing.
Offshore Presence (as needed):
Conduct offshore visits before and during shutdown execution as required.
Essential Experience:
Relevant Oil and Gas Industry experience
Experienced shutdown engineer / manager with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of multi-discipline shutdown activities.
Should have proven supervisory experience with the ability to plan and coordinate, be experienced in a similar role and have an appreciation of the business impacts of a shutdown. Possess the ability and initiative to solve any problems that arise during a shutdown.
